10 Flower Arranging Tips From A Florist Newport Beach

Have you ever wondered how those floral arrangements turn out so spectacular? At Corona Del Mar Florist, we are thrilled to create the right arrangement for your special occasion, your home or your business. We’re the florist Newport Beach turns to, whether stopping by our flower shop or ordering flower delivery. We are here to exceed your expectations and be the Newport Beach florist that you count on again and again.

So how do we create such beautiful arrangements? Here are a few tips that you can use for your own arrangements, too!

  1. Cut It Out

Use a sharp knife to cut about an inch off of the bottom stem, which will help the flowers absorb water better.

  1. Just Add Water

As soon as you get your flowers home, be sure to put them in water. Add tepid water first, then a preservative (those little packets you get with your order), then the flowers.

  1. Open Up

Some flowers, such as roses, come with flower heads that are closed tight. Warm water helps these buds open up. Leave them in water a day or two before using.

  1. Trim It Up

When you’re ready to arrange your flowers, give the stems a fresh cut. Also be sure to remove any leaves that fall below the water line.

  1. Foam Fits Form

Florists foam serves several functions. It helps keep flowers in place where you want them and also keeps your blooms stay constantly hydrated, which extends the life of those flowers. You can add more water to the foam every couple of days.

  1. A Tall Order

Ideally, the floral portion of your arrangement should be about 1.5 times as tall as the container that holds it. You also want to make sure the arrangement’s width is proportionate to its height.

  1. Weight, Weight

Your arrangement should begin with the largest and heaviest flowers. Turn the container as you work to make sure flowers are evenly distributed on all sides. You also want to leave room for flowers to have their moment. Also consider mixing flowers of different shapes and sizes.

  1. Color Your World

Consider using flowers of like colors that have different shapes and sizes. The monochromatic look will be striking and in contrast to brightly multicolored arrangements.

  1. It’s a Keeper

Hold on to those large leaves and stems. You should keep them around to fill in and add a touch of green to bare spots. Greenery can even be draped over the lip of your container.

  1. Location, Location, Location

You want to place your new, beautiful arrangement in a spot that is not in direct sunlight or a heat source. Be sure to recut stems and refresh water often.

There’s a reason we’re the florist Newport Beach residents count on. At Corona Del Mar Florist, our team take care and pride in every single order. Whether you shop in our flower shop or use our flower delivery service, we want to partner with you whenever you need a florist.
